The same face from the first page to the last, painted in one style. These are the pages exactly as they came out.
Ada swam through her bright coral garden, her shining tail waving softly. She gathered curious things from the world above: a spoon, a button, and a little silver bell. For the first time, Ada rose all the way to the surface. Far away, a ship shone like a floating town. Her tail curled beneath the waves as she whispered, “Oh!” Thunder rumbled, and the ship rocked. Ada pulled a floating rope toward safe rocks, guiding a sailor who clung to its other end. Her tail glinted through the stormy water. Ada swam down past the last of the light. In a cavern of kelp and old whale bones, jars glowed. A whisper warned, “Guard your lovely voice!” “A day of legs costs your voice,” said the sea witch. Ada held her bell close. “Take my treasures, not my song!” The witch scowled, then agreed; Ada kept her voice. In the shallows, Ada sat on a smooth, flat rock. Bubbles rushed upward from her tail’s tip, turning its shimmer into two ordinary legs and feet. “Toes!” she sang in wonder. Ada walked on ordinary legs all day, with no tail at all. On a broad, grassy clifftop, she met a friend. They waved from a pace apart and made up silly songs. By moonlight, Ada slipped into the sea, and her legs became a shimmering tail again. She swam home to her waiting family. Her treasures were gone, but her song came home.
