A cyclone swept across Kansas as Ivy ran after little Toto. Aunt Em reached the storm cellar, but the farmhouse rose into the sky. Inside, Ivy held her little dog close and waited. The house landed softly among green fields. The Good Witch welcomed Ivy and offered shining silver shoes left behind by a fleeing witch. A yellow brick road pointed towards someone who might help her home. In a cornfield, a scarecrow winked from his pole. Ivy helped him down, and he asked to join her. Perhaps the Wizard could give him brains! Together, they followed the bright road towards adventure. They found a tin woodman rusted stiff among the trees. Ivy oiled his joints until he could move. He wanted a heart, so he joined them. The road now rang with friendly footsteps and cheerful clinks. A lion roared, frightening Toto. Ivy told him that scaring somebody small was unkind. The lion lowered his head: he wished he had courage. They invited him along, and his lonely journey ended. At last, the Emerald City glittered ahead. Ivy, Toto and their three friends stopped in wonder. Each had a different wish, but they had reached this shining place together. Their friendship already felt like treasure. In a yellow castle, a wicked witch stole one silver shoe. Ivy splashed her with a bucket of water. The witch shrank smaller than a beetle and scuttled away; Ivy recovered her shoe. Ivy said goodbye to her brave friends and clicked her silver heels three times. “Take me home to Aunt Em!” she wished. A whirl of air carried her to Kansas, where open arms were waiting.
