Every page of Emily’s book
The same face from the first page to the last, painted in one style. These are the pages exactly as they came out.
Four-year-old Emily stood in a wide, sunny meadow and looked up. Over the valley, the rainbow arched like a bridge, its colors pale and fading like chalk. Emily listened as a shy unicorn stepped from the meadow’s edge. “Playful storm clouds scattered seven glowing color crystals,” it whispered. “Without them, our rainbow cannot shine.” “We’ll find them,” Emily said kindly. Emily knelt beside a small rabbit caught beneath a fallen branch. She lifted the lighter end and freed it gently. A red crystal glowed where it had crouched, and red warmed the rainbow. Emily followed a mossy trail deeper into the trees, with the unicorn trotting alongside. They reached a clear forest stream running over smooth stones. “Round stones make a path!” Emily said. Emily gently freed a fox cub tangled in reeds at the water’s edge. Two crystals glinted among stones beneath the clear water. She matched their shapes, lifted them, and watched orange and yellow return. Emily heard a bird calling below its nest and lifted it on a leaf to a low branch. Four last crystals glowed in an old tree’s mossy hollow. Green, blue, and indigo brightened overhead. At sunset, Emily returned to the meadow and raised the last violet crystal toward the unicorn’s lowered horn. It floated gently into place. “Shine, little rainbow,” Emily whispered, her face warm with hope. Emily watched the unicorn’s horn glow, and the whole rainbow bloomed across the sky in every color at once. Bright and whole, it arched over the valley. Emily smiled. Kindness had brought the colors home.
